Repurposing the warmth of an old-world storage cellar, the Vintage Barrel Coop surrounds your flock with stacked wooden storage, warm amber lighting, and rich oak finishes.
What This Idea Means
This layout mimics a historic farm storage vault. It uses functional storage blocks like Barrels and Composters as key architectural building materials for walls and perches.
How to Make It
- Construct low, arched walls and ceilings using Mud Bricks, Spruce Planks, and Dark Oak Stairs.
- Stack Barrels sideways and vertically along back walls to form textured storage partitions and nesting frames.
- Empty out select Barrel sections or place open Trapdoors over Barrels to serve as cozy nesting cubbies.
- Build low feeding tables using Spruce Slabs supported by inverted Stairs, topped with Flower Pots and Wheat.
- Illuminate the room using Candles placed directly on top of stacked barrel tops and wall ledges.
Tips & Variations
- Barrel Orientations: Alternate barrel placement directions (top facing vs. side facing) to create rich visual wall texture.
- Cellar Arches: Use curved stair arches overhead to create an enclosed, subterranean cellar feeling.
