7. The Coastal Pier & Stilts Coop
Introduction
Positioned over a lake shore or coastal bay, the Coastal Pier & Stilts Coop pairs light-toned weathered timber with aquatic surrounding views, creating a breezy, marine-inspired farm interior.
What This Idea Means
This design transitions traditional farm housing to water environments. It highlights light wood tones, breezy ventilation slates, and raised flooring over water currents.
How to Make It
- Build an interior room on a platform extending over water, supported by Stripped Oak Log pilings.
- Construct interior flooring out of Birch Planks, leaving selective floor cutouts covered with Glass Panes to reveal water underneath.
- Build open slat wall windows using Jungle or Birch Fences to allow ocean air and light to flow through.
- Create elevated roosting perches using hanging Chains and Birch Slabs suspended from ceiling roof rafters.
- Place feeding troughs near outer window ledges using Waterlogged Stairs surrounded by Oak Trapdoors.
Tips & Variations
- Submerged Support Texturing: Mix Prismarine or Mossy Cobblestone into the underwater sections of wooden support logs to simulate barnacles.
- Light Palette: Utilize Birch, Jungle Wood, and Light Gray Wool to maintain a sun-bleached coastal aesthetic.
- Exterior Decking: Add a small exterior fishing deck off the coop interior using Trapdoors for easy dock access.
